In the midst of unprecedented challenges for physical retail, These Days partnered with Naked Retail to design a unique and dynamic store experience in Manhattan’s Nolita district. As the retail landscape continues to evolve, Naked Retail offered a fresh approach to direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands. A rotating cast of brands who predominantly live on the internet were hand selected to be partners. This provided an opportunity for traditional DTC brands to activate offline in a collaborative setting, with seasons curated around a specific theme.
The Challenge
In a time when retail businesses in New York City were reeling from the impact of the pandemic, the challenge was not only to create a store concept that would stand out but also to offer a space that could adapt and cater to a wide range of brands and activities.
With a unique vision regarding store design, every season at Naked meant a complete overhaul of store interiors and brand storytelling. Each version of the capsule collection required a different take on brand, layout, fixturing, display and audio/visual design.
These Days partnered with Naked to create the brand narrative and store design for two distinct seasons entitled The Future of Retail and Shifting Perspectives.
The Future of Retail
Welcome to the brands of tomorrow.
The ‘Future Of’ series narrative highlighted brands who’s efficacy, relevance and integrity penetrates the ever shifting brand landscape. The physical experience is confident, intentional and thoughtful.
The store palette balanced permanence with disruption by combining traditional materials and building techniques with modern twists.
Shifting Perspectives
Shifting Perspectives, brings attention to the brands that break away from category conventions and mindsets and introduce innovative thought and direction in a rapidly changing consumer landscape.
Our narrative focussed on brand founders who were choosing to do things differently. Game-changers, rule breakers and mavericks.
Our store palette combined copper foils, burl veneers, exposed brick, concrete and cork with a feature table that ran the length of the store as a statement display piece.
The design of Naked Retail’s seasons demonstrated the power of innovative spatial design in driving customer engagement and brand collaboration. By curating two distinct versions of the space, we created a retail environment that stayed relevant, fresh, and adaptable to the needs of DTC brands in a rapidly changing market.
